What is the difference between coveralls and speedsuits?

The ACTION-BACK coverall is made of 65% polyester/35% cotton 7 1/2 oz twill.  The speedsuit is made of 65% polyester/35% cotton 5 1/4 oz poplin.  The ACTION BACK is similar in weight to the Red-E-Prest pants, while the SPEEDSUIT is similar to the poplin work shirts.  The 100% COTTON COVERALL is the heaviest at 8 1/2 oz.

How can I figure what the shipping cost is going to be?

There is a basic charge of $6.00 for every order.  Add to that, $0.05 for every dollar spent in the order.  For example, if the order totals $50.00, the shipping/handling cost would be the $6.00 plus $2.50 ($50 x .05) for a total of $8.50.  For express shipping, choose UPS 2nd Day or UPS Next Day in the menu. Additional charges will be added at time of shipment. Express Shipping charges are not calculated in your total.

LISTED BELOW ARE SOME COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS CONCERNING UNIFORM USAGE AND THE COMPARISON OF RENTING VS PURCHASING:

Which is the most economical, buying or renting?

Renting uniforms (5 changes of pants & shirts) for one employee costs in the neighborhood of $400 per year and does not include environmental, energy, insurance or loss charges. Check your invoices for exact amounts. In most cases, you can purchase 5 changes of pants & shirts for under $200. The garments usually last for two years, making the yearly cost $100. That’s a difference of $300 per year per employee!

What is a set-up charge for a new employee?

This is added revenue for rental companies. They normally charge $2 for set-up, plus $1 for a name patch and $2 for a company emblem. All this times the 11 sets it takes to serve 5 changes per week. $55 to set up a new employee. The $2 set-up is just for pulling used or new garments from stock and adding a laundry tape to the garment. In many cases, the rental company will save the old names and emblems taken from the shirts of a terminated employee, place them on the shirts of your new employee and charge you for them again (added revenue).

What is a "minimum flat rate charge"?

The rental companies want a guaranteed return on their investment for the uniforms supplied. If each employee has 5 changes per week, the minimum charge is for the 5 changes whether then turn in 5 or nothing. If an employee forgets their uniforms on delivery day and washes them, you are still charged the minimum. Uniform rental companies make substantial profit on what they term "underwash".

How do I avoid paying loss charges to the uniform rental company for garments that my employees say aren’t lost?

Many uniform rental companies have a budget for loss charges that they must collect. This again, is added revenue and profit for them. They as a rule, charge double of what the garments actually cost them. It usually states in the contract that you signed with them that their count is proof of loss. My only advise is that you be diligent and demand a weekly soil count from the driver to compare with the next delivery.

How do I change from a rental to a purchase program?

Always inspect your service agreement (contract) to protect yourself. Check for who signed it and if and when it expires.  Read the contract thoroughly and you will find that it protects the interests of the rental company. If it has expired, there should be no problem. Just discontinue renting the garments. You need no contract to purchase garments..

Isn’t the cost of buying the uniforms up front prohibitive?

It depends on your situation. Many companies issue a clothing allowance to their employees or deduct a small amount out of their paychecks. Some businesses purchase 5 shirts and 3 pairs of pants or just shirts only to keep the cost down.  The long term savings is worth the initial investment.

I want my employees to look different than the routine uniforms that are offered by the rental companies, but must keep costs to a minimum.

There are many styles and colors that uniform rental companies don’t want to stock because of inventory and space demands.  I offer a large array of styles and colors and have many catalogs to choose from. In most cases, the price  is about the same as "routine" uniforms.

What if my employees resist having to wash their uniforms?

More than likely, some clothes are washed at home at least weekly. Their uniforms would just be added to the regular wash.  You might select denim style pants as part of their uniform so they can wear them socially. Uniform shorts are an option that would allow "off duty use". There would be no ironing as all the garments are "wash & wear", even the 100% cotton pants and shirts.

What do I do with the uniforms when an employee terminates?

If the garments are in good shape, save them for when you hire another person. They are your property and you shouldn’t have many sizes in inventory. Remember that you won’t have to pay the set-up charges when you hire a new employee.  If the clothes are not in presentable condition, you can always donate them to charity and claim the deduction. Win Win.

Will the uniforms last for 2 years?

Many factors are involved that effect the longevity of the garments. How they are washed and how often, and the type of wear and tear that they are subjected to. In some cases they may last more than 2 years.
